They have played KLMC music marathon for the past few years and look forward to a session with Acoustic Routes.
Niels Gedge and Friends

Niels Gedge is a New Zealand songwriter who now lives in Plimmerton. His songs draw on the landscapes of Aotearoa to tell stories that reflect on life and the echoes of lives past. He works in Appalachian folk, country, countryblues, spiritual, gospel and soul idioms and will mostly be singing songs from his CD 'Between Two Lines' which was launched in Wellington last August.
The title track is on the National Radio playlist. Niels is joined for this set by the outstanding fiddler Fiona Smythe and Helen Dorothy, another songwriter whose debut CD, "The Going Away" has been acclaimed in Wellington folk circles, and by Derek Burfield on upright bass.

10DD

In our quest for something a little, um, different and inspired by the music of 10cc - a 70s UK band of gifted songwriters with a knack for puns and a warped sense of humour, we proudly bring you New Zealand's own 10dd - pun intended - see logo.
Breathing life into these admired and often quirky refrains, 10dd is an all women's a cappella bevvy of equally offbeat characters. Performing "I'm Not in Love", "Art for Art's Sake", "Dreadlock Holiday" and other 10cc tunes you'll recognise, often with surprise.

These ladies really know how to transport you through the emotional roller-coaster of love, jailhouse rioting and Jamaican relaxation with musical finesse and dexterity in a top class tribute to the original band, wowing audiences along the way.

What people have said - I kid you not. . . "Wow - that was REALLY different - in a good way", "Quirky and offbeat - I loved it!", "I want more!", "You guys should so perform at [insert favvenue here]"!

Andy Irvine & Rens van der Zalm

Thursday 14 April, 7.30pm

MEOW, 9 Edward St, Wellington

Entry $20 (members) / $25 (non-members)

Andy Irvine is one of the great Irish singers, his voice one of a handful of truly great ones that gets to the very soul of Ireland. He has been hailed as "a tradition in himself". Musician, singer and songwriter, Andy has maintained his highly individual performing skills throughout his 45-year career. He went from Sweeney's Men in the mid 60s, to the enormous success of Planxty in the 70s and then from Patrick Street to Andy Irvine & Donal Lunny's Mozaik.

Andy has been a world music pioneer and an icon for traditional music and musicians. As a soloist, Andy fills the role of the archetypal troubadour with a show and a travelling lifestyle that reflect his lifelong influence, Woody Guthrie. To quote the Irish Times, "Often copied, never equalled", his repertoire consists of Irish traditional songs, dexterous Balkan dances and compelling cannon of his own self-penned songs.

Andy is joined by Rens van der Zalm, a musician of multiple talents: a skilled guitarist, equally accomplished on the fiddle, mandolin, keyboards, accordion and whistle. In 2002 Andy Irvine drafted Rens to join him in his "dream band" MOZAIK, together with Donal Lunny, Nikola Parov and Bruce Molsky. They have toured all over the world together for the last 15 years.

March Concert: Kieran Halpin

Thursday 3 March, 7.30pm

MEOW, 9 Edward St, Wellington

Entry $10 (members) / $15 (non-members)

Kieran Halpin is a prolific recording artist (19 albums, one live DVD) and highly successful song writer with many of his songs covered by other artists and performed in clubs, pubs and concert halls throughout the world. However, he really makes his mark as a stage performer and is equally at home playing to a small folk club audience or a large festival crowd.

On stage he is powerful and passionate, intimate and intense, with an edge to his voice that brings his songs to life. He has managed to marry his intelligent and thought provoking lyrics with great melodies and has developed over the years into a writer with a style of his own. All of this is underscored by an incisive wit in his introductions, which helps an audience to understand where the song comes from and hint at where it might be going. http://www.kieranhalpin.com/
