Richard Gilewitz (USA)

Concert at Happy (Corner Tory & Vivien Sts, Wellington)

Thursday 22 May, 8pm.

Door charge $20 cash, from 7.30pm.

Richard Gilewitz is a dynamic instrumental guitarist and truly weird and wonderful storyteller. He writes and performs an eclectic mixture of Blues, Classical, Folk, Rock, and Jazz music. His idiosyncratic style has been developed over the years from the influences of such composers as John Fahey, Leo Kottke and J.S.Bach. Named as one of the top 100 Acoustic Guitarists, Richard Gilewitz fascinates his audiences with fingerstyle gymnastics while spinning yarns too unbelievable not to be true. His ability to make one guitar sound like an entire orchestra, with right-hand wizardry and using standard and opening tunings, stems from over 3 decades of well-honed technique and countless years of worldwide touring. A must for anyone who wants to laugh, be amazed, and be treated to an evening of great music from this seasoned performer who comes back to New Zealand for his 4th tour. www.richardgilewitz.com NZ tour information www.flyingpiglets.co.nz

Scottish to the core, with a Welsh name, residing in New Zealand and possessing a permanent hunger for Indian curry, Owen Hugh frequently describes himself simply as ‘confused’. But no-one is confused about his delight and enthusiasm for music, and the response he gets from his audience. Known for his pure voice, gentle guitar accompaniments and sense of humour, Owen has been described in Hattie’s Live Music Guide as having a “silver voice” and delivering “sparse but effective guitar arrangements”. Owen’s new album “You and I” was a finalist in the 2007  TUI Folk Album of the Year awards.
