Meow, 9 Edward St. 27 November, 7:30 pm Entry $10 (members and students) $15 non-members.
The November concert was to have featured the O'Connor family band, Lava. Sadly we have had to reorganise it due to tragic circumstances, with the sudden death of Amanda O'Connor. Amanda will be greatly missed by many in our folk community. Our sympathaties are with Sean and his family and we hope that they can come to play for us at a later date.
Our concert on Sunday will reflect our respect for her. Niels Gedge will perform some of the songs from his album that featured Amanda on vocals. He will be joined by Marian Carter who also sang on the album, (she shared harmony vocals with Amanda on two songs) and Helen Dorothy, who has also performed with Niels.
Joining the line-up as well on Sunday will be the Short Blacks, the Celtic duo of Roy Guinness on vocals and Julian Ward on guitar. They promise to the "freshly brewed for every performance - one flat white and a strong short black topped with whiskey."
Our scheduled opening acts will be there too:
Full Fathom
Full Fathom are Dave Barnes, Dick Willard, Peter Denee, Eric Bell, Grant Wright, and Andy Lawton. Their repertoire is based in the world of trad songs, shanties and the like, but also likely to turn out a more recent song or two.
Matt Pickering
Matthew Pickering released his debut full-length album The Burnside Churchearlier this year, recorded at the Braeburn Studio with Robbie Duncan. It is part lament, part new season. It is intelligent, personal, honest, and Wellington-centric: think fingerpicking in alternate tunings, stories put to song. Matt missed out on the New Horizons concert due to illness, so we are delighted that he is able to take this spot, where he will be joined by backing musicians on banjo, accordion and flute.

Wellington Folk Festival, Brookfields, Friday October 21
Thanks to the Festival Organising Committee, Acoustic Routes again has the honour of organising the Welcome Concert for Wellyfest. A different format this year – we have invited clubs from around the region to nominate an act, so look for a diversity of talent from the lower North Island.
And for those of you who just may be feeling a teensy bit torn about missing the rugby, the Festival Committee has bowed to popular demand and the Fletcher Hall will be turned into games territory for Friday and Sunday evenings, with a big screen for the fans. The main concert will also be moved to Saturday night with the ceilidh on Sunday evening.
Check out the festival website for more details. http://wellingtonfolkfestival.wordpress.com/
A reminder that the Festival replaces the usual Acoustic Routes Concert on the fourth Sunday of October.

| Kristina Olsen is one of the most entertaining and compelling performers on the international folk circuit. A superb multi-instrumentalist (acoustic guitar, steel-body slide guitar, saxophone, concertina, mandolin and piano) as well as an award-winning songwriter with a big bluesy voice, Kristina has audiences around the world coming back for more. Her mix of powerful songs ranging from sassy bottleneck blues to lilting ballads to swing jazz to raunch and roll (as well as her hilarious storytelling) makes for a diverse and satisfying musical experience, on stage and on disc. |

Dunedin's Catgut and Steel have cancelled their concert scheduled for May 1, so Acoustic Routes is celebrating New Zealand Music month with two concerts showcasing Wellington performers. The first great line up is on May Day.
Peter Shaw and Neha Gate Folk and contemporary music on guitars and banjo.
Fire Ponies An alt-folk journey of stories bitter, sweet, and sometimes poignant, with melodies to haunt you. Fireponies are a group of friends doing their best to make sense of life with the help of guitars, drums and other things. A pure melting pot of music written and played for the love of it, Fireponies will charm your socks off with their catchy choruses, storytelling lyrics and damn fine quirkiness.
Baby Boomer Girl Original songs from Radha Sahar and Bernard Wells.
Uncharted Country A new grouping of familiar faces, who've come together to explore the musical territory around and beyond old-time country music. Andrea Coop (fiddle), Peter Dyer (guitar), Don Franks (banjo), Jill Brasell (bass) and Mary Livingston (guitar) have been playing and singing together for years in various permutations, including The Song Rustlers, The Last Roundup, Jambalaya, The Cicadas, and The B53s, as well as about a million jam sessions. And so they bring a formidable accumulation of experience to this new venture. Expect hot licks and heavenly harmonies in songs that chart the rough and rocky road of life.
